East Munster Schools Boys T&F Championships 2019

The East Munster Schools BOYS T&F Championships took place in Waterford RSC on Thursday 9th May. Many thanks to all who helped out on the day and to all the schools who supported the event.

Winners of the Schools Cups on the day were:-

  • Minor Boys – Ard Scoil na Mara 10 points
  • Junior Boys – Waterpark College 11 points
  • Inter Boys – St. Augustine’s College & Our Lady’s Templemore 13 points
  • Senior Boys – St. Augustine’s College 25 points
  • Overall Winner of Brother O’Donovan Cup – Thurles CBS 43 points

There were two records set on the day, both by Thurles CBS students so congrats to them.

Sean Mockler, Thurles CBS threw a record of 67.16m in the Senior Boys 6kg Hammer. 

Thurles CBS Senior Boys 4 x 400m Relay team ran 3.44.67 to break the existing record of 3.44.70 set by St. Declan’s CS Kilmacthomas in 2017.

The East Munster Schools GIRLS Track & Field Championships took place in Templemore Track on Wednesday 1st May. See Provisional results below:-

Three new records were set on the day by the following athletes:-

  • Aoife Allen, Mercy SS Waterford – Senior Girls 1500m Steeplechase (5.39.83) replacing Ciara Cummins’ (Ursuline Thurles) time of 5.46 set in 2015.
  • Presentation Clonmel Senior Girls 4 x 300m Team who ran 3.14.08 to better the time of 3.20.49 set by Presentation Thurles in 2017.
  • Nikita McGrath, Borrisokane CC in the Junior Girls Hammer with her massive throw of 48.51 which smashes the record of 36.10m set by Tirna Cahill, Pobalscoil na Trionoide set in 2016. 
  • Anna Ryan, Ursuline Thurles in the Inter Girls Pole Vault with her jump of 3.10m to replace her own record of 3.00m set last year.

Irish Schools Athletics Association Rules – Update

Since the Irish Schools Athletics Association AGM last December, there have been changes in the selection criteria for the SIAB International T&F. See highlighted text below:-

SIAB International Track & Field Selection Criteria
The selection committee will consist of one representative from each province, the
President of the ISAA and the Administrative Director. Two athletes in each event in track
and field will be selected.

All athletes will be selected based on their performance at the Tailteann Interprovincial
Games only in that current year with the first two athletes available selected in each
event. The selection of under 15 athletes by their Province may only be allowed if the athlete has their 15th birthday in July or August on that year. 

The publishing of selected athletes (Selection Announcement) on Athletics Ireland website after a selection meeting will be deemed the commencement of the 24 – hour period to lodge – A Selection Appeals in accord with this Selection Policy.

Appeals:
Any athlete who is not selected in accordance with this Selection Policy may appeal their
non-selection to ISAA providing they: Have submitted their appeal to the Administrative
Director of the ISAA in accordance with timelines contained in this Selection Policy (24 Hour
window – Post announcement of the team)
The Grounds upon which a Selection decision may be appealed are limited to the following:
There has been an alleged failure by Selection Panel to follow or apply the relevant
Selection Procedure and/or criteria set out in the Selection Policy, and/or The decision for
selection for the championship has been reached based on an error of fact.

Reminder Regarding Competition Byes:

Since the Irish Schools Athletics Association AGM in December 2017, the rules relating to Competition Byes have changed. A motion was passed at that AGM and there are now only three circumstances where athletes can apply for a Bye: –
 

  1. If the applicant is sitting a State Exam on the day of the competition
  2. If the applicant has been selected by his/her National governing body to compete in a recognised International
  3. Family bereavement

Can you please pass this information onto your relevant athletes, parents and coaches.

East Munster Schools T&F Championships 2019

The East Munster Schools T&F Championships will take place on the following dates:-

Wednesday 1st May in Templemore Track – East Munster Schools GIRLS T&F Championships @ 12 noon. See Timetable here – East Munster Schools Girls TT 2019

Thursday 9th May in Waterford RSC – East Munster Schools BOYS T&F Championships @ 11.30am – See Timetable here – East Munster Schools Boys TT 2019

Please note that both the Girls and Boys Pole Vault competitions will take place together on Thursday 9th May in Waterford RSC at the East Munster Schools Boys T&F Competition.

Entry forms and all information were sent out to all Schools on Monday 8th April.

SIAB Cross Country International 2019

The SIAB Schools Cross Country International took place in Santry Demesne, Dublin on Saturday 23rd March. East Munster had 3 athletes on the Irish team with Alex Cashman, Pobalscoil na Trionoide finishing 22nd in the Junior Girls with the Irish team 4th, Tom Walshe, CBS Nenagh placing 29th in the Junior Boys race with the Irish team winning bronze and Emma Landers, Pobalscoil na Trionoide winning silver as part of the Irish Intermediate Mixed Relay. Congrats to all three athletes.
